Southampton Outdoor Sports Centre | Work Experience

Sports photography

Through networking I was able to gain photography experience at Southampton Outdoor Sports Centre which covers 56 acres and features ‘an extensive BMX track, 10 netball courts, 9 football pitches, 2 hockey pitches, 12 tennis courts, 2 bowls greens, a pétanque area, 12 hole crazy golf, a trim trail, full athletics track and stadium, 5 cricket pitches, 3 rounders pitches, a cyclocross course and The Powerhouse!’ (activation.com).

Sports photography recently became a passion of mine after becoming inspired by Peter Simmons and his photography at the events he covered.

Sports photography serves to capture the single most important and precise moments throughout athletes careers and fans memories alike. Moments of excitement but also heartbreak. In itself, sports works on the most basic human instincts, ones of competitveness and others of community and belonging. To be able to capture those important single moments whilst being in and amongst the chaos makes this style of photography so primal yet almost as difficult as part-taking in the sports itself.
